Steny on Stephen

Wed May 03, 2006 at 06:32:42 AM PDT

For those who don't know, Steny Hoyer is a Democrat from Texas.  I believe they are called yellow-dog Democrats.  Maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway, I was getting my morning dose of Daily Kos, and I came across another view of Stephen Colbert's grandiferous speech from Saturday night.

This view was from the Democratic Congressman from Texas.  Take it away, Steny:

"I thought some of it was funny, but I think it got a little rough," Hoyer said. "He is the president of the United States, and he deserves some respect."

"I'm certainly not a defender of the administration," Hoyer reassured stunned observers, but Colbert "crossed the line" with many jokes that were "in bad taste."

You can see it and CrooksandLiars, right now.  http://crooksandliars.com

Steny thinks that Stephen was funny or at least "parts of it" were funny. But Steny thinks that Colbert should have shown more respect.  Go Fuck yourself, Mr. Hoyer.  Go Fuck yourself, Mr. Hoyer.

Why should anyone show any respect to George?  What has he done lately to deserve respect?  Was it when he said that he has authority to nullify the will of Congress?  Was it when he said that he had the inherent authority to spy on American citizens, indefinitely hold Americans incommunicado, operate secret prisons in foreign lands, permit or commit torture, murder and rape?

Is that why I should respect him?  Or is it because he said nobody could have predicted the levees would breach when they did?  Or when George said he didn't want to see Iraq's smoking gun be in the form of a mushroom cloud.  How about the fact that he seems to be unnecessarily ramping up tensions with Iran?  Oh yeah, he's a war president, and he's got war on his mind.  How 'bout, my personal favorite, when he threatens unholy nuclear war.  My bad, I meant unholy, first-strike nuclear war against a country.

If Iran really were an imminent threat, then this nation should rise up (like Nepal did) and demand a new administration.  Folks, shouldn't we try a new approach like  talking to our neighbors, friends and even enemies rather than bring about the end of the Earth as we know it.

Where are those Democrats??

Digby sums it up:

"Apparently Steny Hoyer is a stereotypical Democratic wuss who can't tell the difference between raunchy bad taste and political satire. I honestly can't figure who these guys actually appeal to."

I think that guys like Steny Hoyer aren't looking out for us or the People.  I think the difference between Hoyer and the Repubs. is that the Repubs. have been stealing billions from the nation while Hoyer hopes to get there some day.  It may be hyperbole, but what else could explain Hoyer's defense of the President.  Why does any American or Democrat defend the president unless they are on the payroll.

Now, don't get me wrong, I probably am a yellow-dog Democrat, and I will vote Democrat in '08 because, unlike Howard Fineman, I don't want to see Giuliani or McCain in the White House.  Not by a fucking long shot. I'd much rather see GORE/DEAN in '08.

That's if George gives it up......
